Gillian Keegan, the Secretary of State for Education in the United Kingdom, was recently hacked on Twitter.
Her Twitter account began tweeting cryptocurrency-related comments before switching to the profile of controversial entrepreneur Elon Musk.
The tweets were about a phony event allegedly sponsored by Musk’s businesses (Twitter and Tesla). It advertised a “special prize for all our followers and the cryptocurrency community.” Free Dogecoin (DOGE), Bitcoin (BTC), and Ethereum were promised to users (ETH).
The attack happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, and tweets were posted for more than 12 hours before being removed.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred: in July, hackers took over the British army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts to promote bogus bitcoin prizes.
Even though Musk has openly proclaimed his intention to cut down on spam and malicious content since taking over the company in October, he has not been successful thus far.
According to U.Today, Peter Brandt recently called Musk’s anti-boy crusade a joke, with large layoffs significantly reducing the staff’s resources.
